Ladies Day
a comedy by Amanda Whittington +
poster

Our season opens with this comedy-drama about four very different ladies who decide to take a day off from their humdrum employment in a fish-filleting factory to attend Ladies’ Day at the Royal Ascot races. Hairnets, overalls and wellies are exchanged for their best finery as Pearl, Jan, Shelley and Linda head out for fun, adventure and as much champagne as they can guzzle. And with the odd flutter on the horses here and there, they might just hit the jackpot! Amanda Whittington’s play is a wonderfully light-hearted way to start our seventy-third season.

Old Mother Hubbard
a pantomime/family play by David Wood +
poster

It is Christmas Eve and a lonely dog arrives at Old Mother Hubbard’s Home for Lost Children. But alas, her cupboard is bare! And to make matters worse, she is turned out of her house by the bailiff and rent collector. Together with her brood of nursery-rhyme children she makes her way to a forest and encounters The Great Boon, a magician, who by fortunate chance casts a spell which enlarges the bailiff’s boot to the size of a house in which she and the children can live. But Mother Hubbard’s troubles are far from over... With original songs, dance, laughs and lots of fun Old Mother Hubbard is the ideal way to get adults and kiddies alike into the festive mood. Oh no it isn’t! Oh yes it is!

And Then There Were None
a ‘whodunit’ by Agatha Christie +
poster

Ten strangers are invited to a house on a remote island off the Devonshire coast. None of them know each other and none have ever met their host. Each has been asked there for a specific reason. And each has a closely guarded secret in their past. When their host fails to arrive the ten strangers become suspicious and uneasy. And then they begin to die, one by one, each murdered in a grotesque parody of an old nursery rhyme... Agatha Christie’s most baffling mystery. Can you spot whodunit?

No Sex Please We’re British
a farce by Alistair Foot and Anthony Marriott +
poster

Our season comes to an end with this classic British farce concerning an assistant bank manager, Peter Hunter, who lives in the flat over his bank with his new bride Frances. When Frances sends off a mail order for Scandinavian glassware, the couple are horrified to receive Scandinavian pornography instead. Boxes and boxes of it! Together with the bank’s frantic chief cashier, the couple must decide how to dispose of the dodgy goods before Peter’s mother, his boss, a visiting bank inspector and a police superintendent arrive on the scene! No Sex Please, We’re British! is an excellent way to round off our seventy-third season. You’ll still be laughing when we begin our seventy-fourth!
