The Deep Blue Sea
by Terence Rattigan

When Hester Collyer is discovered by her neighbours in her flat, having attempted suicide, the complex and emotional layers of her traumatic life begin to be unravelled. Throughout the course of one day – and via a series of flashbacks – we learn of her marriage to a respectable High Court judge, her past affair with a former RAF pilot, and her devastation when the affair comes to an end. But, Hester finds a curious and moving kinship with one of her neighbours, an ex-doctor struck off for undisclosed reasons – both of them outcasts, each socially ostracised for their excessive loves.

This classic 1952 play by Terence Rattigan is back on our stage for our 70th Anniversary season by popular demand.
